Capsule closing force

The force applied to bring a two-piece capsule’s cap and body into the fully closed position.

Also called: capsule closure force; closing-force monitoring; capsule locking force.

Is closing force the same as the force holding a capsule shut?

No. Closing force brings cap and body into the required joined state; reopening force separates them afterward. Prelock retention concerns another state before filling. Different motions and states cannot be described by one interchangeable force value.

Specify which motion, shell state and measurement arrangement a quoted result covers. A cap/body design that is easier to assemble is not thereby shown to have weaker final retention. Conversely, a high closing peak is not proof that a capsule reached a sound final lock.

What can a closing-force monitor reveal?

A monitoring arrangement can compare measured force and movement with predefined limits. That combination provides more context than one high reading. Trapped powder at the joint can increase friction, but a high-force event alone does not identify that cause or prove a sound lock.

Compare force-and-movement traces with physical observations of the actual shell and setup. Sensor calibration supports the force measurement; suitable acceptance limits require evidence connecting the trace with the closed capsule’s condition.
