Capsule rectification

Orienting empty two-piece capsules into a consistent cap-and-body direction before they enter the filling machine’s subsequent handling stages.

Also called: capsule orientation; capsule orienting; capsule rectifier.

Orienting capsules before separation

Rectification changes the direction in which joined empty capsules reach the next handling stage. In a ring-based arrangement, capsules arriving cap-first or body-first can be directed into a consistent body-first orientation before feeding into the tooling.

Orientation and detachment are separate stages. Putting a capsule in the required direction does not by itself mean that the cap and body have separated, regardless of the transport layout.

Does correct orientation guarantee correct seating in the tooling?

Orientation and placement are separate observations. After rectification, a correctly directed capsule still has to reach its intended receiving position in the ring or other handling tooling.

Record the incoming capsule state, required direction and receiving tooling. Report orientation, seating and opening outcomes separately when assessing feeding performance.
