The depth of the powder layer presented to the dosing mechanism in a capsule filler, measured relative to the machine’s specified reference surface.
Also called: powder bed level; powder layer height; dosing bowl powder level.
Where is powder-bed height measured?
It is the powder layer presented to the dosing mechanism, not the height of powder inside a filled shell. A useful value needs the machine’s reference surface and measurement location. In a tamping-style arrangement, the powder bed, dosing disc and pins are separate elements.
A bed can be locally uneven near a transfer or wiper region. Identify where level was measured before relating a reading to the whole bowl or to fill-weight variation.
Does a stable powder level prove stable capsule fill weight?
No. It describes one condition at the dosing area. Net dose mass and its variation still need their own evidence. Different combinations of settings can produce the same average mass with different variability, so an average alone does not establish consistent dosing.
A feedback arrangement can measure powder level and regulate replenishment through auger speed. That controls a powder-supply variable, not capsule contents mass directly. Distinguish level monitoring, automatic refill control and actual fill-weight measurement in a machine proposal.
